Finally, after a year and a half, the Garden Club of Ponce Inlet will be begin holding our monthly membership meetings and resuming all of our special events starting in September. We are happy to be back and are looking forward to welcoming all of our members and prospective members back this fall.

In the meantime, our Garden Club members and Ponce Primpers have spent their time away beautifying their own gardens and maintaining the plantings around the town fulfilling our Garden Club objective of promoting the beauty of the world around us and especially of our beautiful town.

All of our new Board Members, who we introduced to you in our previous Newsletter, have been working hard behind the scenes, guided by our former board members, to ensure that we get off to a successful start in our upcoming year. A big shout out and thank you to our prior Board Members: Liz Finch, Diane Bell, Jo Curcio, Leslie Fuess, Mary Ann Redinger and Barbara Stewart, all of whom worked patiently throughout the summer leading the way for our new board.

Our regular monthly meetings will resume on Wednesday, September 22 at 10:30 AM and will be held on the 4th Wednesday of every month except as noted otherwise. Our Board meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9:30 AM except as otherwise noted. All meetings will be held at the Ponce Inlet Community Center.

In addition, our Garden Club crafters continue to meet every Monday from 10 AM to Noon at the Community Center. All are welcome to join our crafters in creating and producing their beautiful crafts. We are also looking for members to serve on our various committees. This is a great way to get to know our many garden club members. For more information about attending a meeting or becoming a member, please stop by the Community Center. In addition to our regular monthly meetings, we will be holding our cornerstone event – our Arts, Crafts and Plant Show, which we had to forego last year due to COVID restrictions. Our Arts, Crafts and Plant Show will be held on Friday and Saturday October 8th and 9th , so please Save the Date . Highlights will include both indoor and outdoor vendors featuring handmade arts and crafts. Some of the homemade crafts you will find at our Show include metal yard art, beautiful handmade jewelry, exquisite cutting and charcuterie boards, wreaths, quilts, handwoven door mats, pottery, glass bowls and paintings just to name a few. Our Garden Club members will have plenty of plants to sell as well, all in hand-painted pots courtesy of our Garden Club Crafters.

Committees are being formed now and we are in the process of finalizing plans for this special annual event. Our traditional bake sale will be back along with our café and raffle items. We are still looking for vendors so please feel free to share with your family and friends. In addition to our Arts, Crafts and Plant Show we will be bringing back our very popular Ice Cream Social in May.
This event will be held on May 1, 2022. This is a special event which brings all residents in our community together for a fun day of comraderie and of course delicious ice cream. Our Arbor Day celebration will be back in April 2022 with plans still being discussed. Our new Garden Club President, Dorothy Beard, has been hard at work this summer setting up our program schedule for the upcoming year. Our October membership meeting will feature Mr. Howard Jeffries who will be showing us how to plant, grow, feed and care for Roses. This will be followed in November by a presentation from the Seaside Herb Society of Ormond Beach. They will be demonstrating the planting and growing of herbs in gardens or pots, as well as how to use herbs in our recipes for cooking.

In March, we are looking forward to having Mr. Robert Bowden, President of Leu Gardens in Orlando, who will be speaking to us all about Camelias. The Leu Gardens has the largest collection of Camelias in North America. In addition to these speakers, we will also be looking at scheduling a daytrip to one of the lovely Gardens in our area and trying to reschedule our Luncheon Cruise on the scenic Lady Dolphin of Daytona, which was a sold-out event from last year. Finally, in March we will be celebrating our 40th year as an organization, so look for a Big Birthday Bash celebrating this wonderful achievement!

Our Beautification Award Committee will once again be out starting in September. This committee gives an award each month for the best landscaped yard in Ponce Inlet. Prizes will also be awarded in December for the best holiday themed yard. As you can see, we are planning for a very full year for all of our members and can’t wait to get started! Our Garden Club works hard all year long to give back to our community and with the support of all of our members we can continue to do so. As our 1st Garden Club President, Edwina Knox, once told us, “The seeds we sow today become the flowers of tomorrow.” See you all in September!
