Joe DiCarlo
2019 Ponce Inlet Citizen of the Year

Joe DiCarlo moved to Ponce Inlet in 2005 with his wife Judy. From 2009 to 2013 he was an active Volunteer at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, helping with onsite and offsite programs including the association’s Anniversary Celebration and Endowment Fund Drives, accumulating over 500 hours of recorded service.

The Garden Club chose him for their Beautification Award winner in October of 2015 and acknowledged him as their Honorary Gardner of the Year in 2016 for his reliable assistance with various responsibilities from Parade Float Creations, Potted Plant Productions & Sales, Arts & Craft Show set ups and other Club needs. For several years Joe has had a Honey Bee hobby and donated all profits from his Lighthouse Honey & Healing Lotion sales to help fund the Garden Club’s Educational Scholarship for Ponce Inlet graduating High School Seniors.

He has been a member of the Town’s Planning Board from 2010 to 2020 and previous to that served on the Code Enforcement Board and the Mayor’s Builder Relationship Improvement Advisory Committee. Additional town activities where he has volunteered are the annual North Turn Legends Beach Parade and Ponce Preserves the Planet event.

He was one of the initial volunteers for the Ponce Inlet Historical Museum and has always been available to lend a helping hand to any resident in need and is generous of his time and spirit.

In addition to Volunteer activities Joe also enjoys making homemade Wine, Sambuca, Limoncello, Pizzelles and Biscotti, Stromboli & Pesto and tending to his garden of garlic, tomatoes, hot peppers and fresh herbs.
